Q. How do I discover the right style for me?
Style is not fashion, and fashion is not style. Style is determined by the way you dress and carry yourself.
Dressing:
Knowing our bodies and shapes will give us confidence in which kind of dresses or trends fit us. You donít have to have expensive things or lots of dresses to make yourself look good and beautiful. It is a matter of knowing how to choose your clothes and combine them with the right accessories. Slim people, as well as tall people, have the advantage of fitting into almost all kinds of dresses and fashions. People with extra weight should try to avoid too tight dresses, especially if you have wide hips, try to wear long jackets. Black tends to make you appear slimmer than you are. Long trousers and dresses help you to appear taller than you are. Dressing in one color from shoulder to shoe streams the body (monochromatic dressing). People of color can wear strong colors, but just be careful not to overdo it by putting on too many colors at the same time. Otherwise, you will make yourself look odd, as if you are trying to hide the real you. Remember, simple is beautiful!
Match your outfit with equally colored shoes, or the color of your shoes matching with your accessories, e.g. a handbag, scarf, belt, and jacket. I suggest you have black or brown shoes because they fit with any other color. It is also nice to look at the color of the season if you like to change with trends. Avoid wearing shiny colors when the sun shines, and donít forget that dark colors absorb light. If you wear them during hot weather, it will make you sweat more. During this time, try to wear flower colors like purple, pink, blue, and red. Avoid wearing high-heeled shoes all the time, especially if you have a long way to walk, because this can cause damage to your backbone and other parts of your body. A good tip is to carry your high-heeled shoes in your car or in your bag and, wear them after reaching the place youíre going, like at work. By the way, it is dangerous to drive wearing high heels. For men, keep it simple with black or brown shoes.
You can always develop your own style with which you feel comfortable. Having a good eye for how clothes fall and look on you is key to stylish dressing. Style is not being carried away with silly fashion rules. But rather, itís being true to yourself and to your personality when it comes to dress, behaving, doing your hair or make up. Fashion comes and goes, but a stylish person uses fashion to get ideas for her good taste in dressing. No designer knows you better than you know yourself. Professional advice might be helpful in choosing how you dress. Style is simply going with what works for you.
