Personal Growth
Dear friends, My hope is that you are doing well and making progress towards your 2005 resolutions. Be-fore I get to this month theme, I'd like to share with you some of the things I've been doing since last month's newsletter. I am writing you from a beautiful restaurant on the banks of the Neckar river in beautiful Heidelberg, Germany. It's late in the evening and the stars are shin-ing as bright as I can remember this time of year. This evening, I’ve made time for relaxation, after a busy week that took me to four cities and back to Heidelberg, one of the most beauti-ful cities in the world. Anyway, my schedule included a fashion show in Cologne, a photo shooting in Frankfurt, and a visit to the German UN offices in Bonn as well as a School in Lambrecht, to discuss my book 'The African Princess'. In the midst of this busy schedule, I made time to see old fiends and a fascinating display of cultural artefacts at a wonderful museum in the former German capital, Bonn. This museum, which any and everyone going through Bonn should see is called Tutanchamun – yes, it’s named after an Egyptian king form antiquity. What a fantastic museum. One of the little know facts that I discovered was that the ancient black Egyptians had a much greater contri-bution to the development of our arts and sciences than we are commonly lead to believe. This insight has broadened my vision for a better world. Leaving that wonderful museum in Bonn, my big question was why building an Egyptian museum in the heart of Germany? The answer was simple, that we can all learn and grow from the development and contributions of other races and cultures. The accomplishments of the Egyptians of old can be an inspira-tion for all mankind. Again, what an inspiration? Now, let's speak of personal growth. What has inspired you lately? Have you had a chal-lenge lately? As you might be aware, unless we get out of our comfort zones, our growth and development will not move forward. If we continue to do things the same way year after year just because those things are comfortable, that will not lead to increase growth and devel-opment? That will simply lead to us not accomplishing our potential. That’s one reason why I took time to visit that beautiful new Egyptian museum in Bonn. It was an effort to get out of my comfort zone and see sights and sounds that I am not familiar with. It was certainly worth the effort. Are you ready to step out of your comfort zone and go somewhere you have never gone or try something new? If you do, I want to assure you that you can’t loose for trying but you will always miss-out by not stepping out of your comfort zone. Growth comes from learn-ing, changing and doing. Make time to visit a museum, library, workshop or seminar. How about enrolling in a university class or a technical course, maybe a bible study class or join-ing a book discussion club. You'll be amazed how productive such a new activity can be. I guarantee that you'll grow, meet interesting people and open your mind to a new world of opportunities and possibilities. One of the highlights of my trip to Germany was the fun that I had in meeting with students at the Lambricht School. Believe it or not, some teenagers actually thought 'Sugar daddies' were older men who carry sweets with them-to offer them to young girls. It was a joy to share my time and words of encouragement to this younger generation and help them to focus and avoiding destructions. As the students sing 'we are the World’ and express their readiness to make a positive impact on society, I was encouraged and my week was brighten after watch-ing the tragic movie 'Hotel Rwanda'. It’s good to know that the next generation is focus on the positive. As we seek personal growth, we need to be more concerned about other races, cultures and people; the international support of the Tsumani victims is a good start in that direction. My hope is that you will play your part in making this world a better place for us all as you con-tinue to seek personal growth. Till next time, be encouraged………
